For all the Amy Rose enthusiasts out there, there is a fun rom hack called Amy Rose in Sonic the Hedgehog (you know who you are). She possesses a large hammer to smash foes with in addition to being able to sprint and jump like Sonic. When she swings it, it even spits out hearts. Cute.
Sonic Spinball
Dr. Robotnik, the evil inventor, is once more up to his old pranks. He went and constructed a new stronghold this time on top of a volcano (because of course he did). Every boss will present a different challenge. If you are having problems with the game, look for on-screen help.
Sonic The Hedgehog 2
In 1992, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was released as a Sega Genesis video game. Since Sonic was the only character in the original game, Tails joining in to assist Sonic made this game special. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 allowed you to play as both Sonic and Tails at the same time, which was revolutionary for its time. In Super Mario Bros, you had to control Mario and Luigi separately.
Sonic 2 Retro Remix
This rom hack puts an emphasis on exploration and finishing tasks like collecting Chaos Emeralds or taking out bosses.

You can spin dash if you choose anniversary mode. Additionally, there is a secret area with jukeboxes someplace.
